湖北省造“本省”光绪元宝银币一枚，由湖北银元局仿广东银元铸造流通于市，初铸时龙图左右嵌“本省”二字，以示与外省有所区别，后因窒碍难行，收回再铸时，将“本省”两字去之，未销毁重铸而留存至今者屈指可数，并且多为磨损或打戳，完全未使用品极其罕见。This is a silver coin of the "Hubei Provincial" Guangxu Yuanbao, minted by the Hubei Silver Yuan Bureau in imitation of Guangdong's silver coins for circulation in the market. Initially, the characters "Ben Sheng" (meaning "this province") were inscribed on either side of the dragon design to distinguish it from coins from other provinces. However, due to practical difficulties, when the coins were recalled for reminting, the "Ben Sheng" characters were removed. Only a handful of coins that were not destroyed and reminted have survived to this day, most of which show signs of wear or punch marks. Completely unused specimens are extremely rare.
