犀角，名列世界上最有名气的牙角料之首，远比象牙更为珍奇。中国古代文明中将它与夜光璧和明月珠相齐名等尊。古人很早就知道酒性燥热，犀角性寒、凉，对人有凉血、解毒、镇惊、滋补的作用，因而就利用犀角制成器皿饮酒，以祛病延年。Rhinoceros horn ranks first among the most renowned ivory and horn materials in the world, far more rare and precious than elephant ivory. In ancient Chinese civilization, it was held in equal esteem alongside luminous jades and moonlit pearls. The ancients long recognized that alcohol has a heating and drying effect on the body, whereas rhinoceros horn is cold and cooling in nature, possessing properties that cool the blood, detoxify, calm the nerves, and nourish vitality. Consequently, they crafted vessels from rhinoceros horn for drinking alcohol, believing it could ward off illnesses and prolong life.
